Talk:Earth-20090501

Merge article?

Has it been said that the movie is starting a new universe? I had the impression that it was a prequel to the existing trilogy (Earth-2000714), especially given the casting; and if we don't know one way or the other, it might be better to just have one page for the movie itself.

Also, if the universe number was "the two-digit year followed by the number of the month", wouldn't it be Earth-095, presumably equivalent to Earth-95? Or does the handbook mentioned at Multiverse use a different rule? --Andrew Nagy 07:46, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

There's actually no real rhyme or reason to the numbering system. '20090501' was chosen by us as a placeholder until the reality number actually comes out. It was chosen because it is very large and is unlikely to be actually used in Marvel Comics. The handbook doesn't mention how any of the universes got their numbers, unfortunately, or we'd have no unnumbered universes ourselves.
But you raise a good point, considering the casting. I personally would be ok with merging this reality into 20000714, at least until the movie comes out and gives us some indication that it should be separate.
Anyone else?
