History:

General Alfred Gray was a military officer involved in Reed Richards's rocket project for Aerodyne Corporation. It was Gray who disauthorized a rocket test flight, which led to Reed Richards stealing the rocket and causing the accident that created the Fantastic Four.

Trying to stop the Fantastic Four from being created, Kang the Conqueror kidnapped and impersonated Gray to authorize the flight. The intended crew included L. Jordan, M. Hermann and S. Michaels, with the false Gray adding Reed Richards to the list. However, timetravelling heroes stopped Kang and rescued Gray, who then revoked the impostor's orders.
