Synopsis for "Into the Crimson Cosmos!"

Juggernaut, fresh from his victory over the X-Men, is headed through wilderness towards an airport so he can join up with Factor 3 in europe. Some soldiers try to stop them, but nothing can stop the Juggernaut. Back in the mansion, Professor X is unconscious, so Jean uses a device to let her read some of the professor's thoughts. She discovers the history behind the Ruby of the Crimson Bands, how the Ancient One bound Xorak, the gem's guardian, inside the ruby. They try to use Cerebro to find the Ancient One, but instead contact Doctor Strange, who sends Scott and Jean to Korea and the Temple of Cyttorak to perform a ritual. They find the temple, repeat the incantation given them by Doctor Strange, and descend into the ruby's crimson depths. Back in New York the remainder of the X-Men attempt futilely to slow the Juggernaut. In the Crimson Cosmos, Xorak battles Scott and Jean, and is ultimately defeated by a wristwatch (whose touch causes Xorak to age rapidly). They grab the "ruby prototype", and then magically materialize back in the mansion. They rush to join their fellows, who are barely slowing the Juggernaut, and the presence of the ruby prototype weakens the Juggernaut. He lunges for the ruby, but as soon as he grabs it he is sent to the Crimson Cosmos. Returning to the mansion in triumph, the X-Men are surprised to find that previously unconscious Professor X has vanished!

    Notes

    • Juggernaut's connection to the Crimson Cosmos hasn't been brought up since UXM #46 and has presumably been ret-conned since the X-Men titles have generally moved away from mystical explanations in favor of pseudo-scientific ones.
